Square Enix and a mobile game publisher have resolved a legal dispute over the unauthorized use of assets from a jointly-developed, but eventually cancelled, project.

According to Automaton, the collaboration between Square Enix and HK Ten Tree on the game Front Mission 2089: Borderscape was made public in April 2022, yet by October of the same year, the project had been scrapped.

Earlier this year, Square Enix filed a lawsuit against Ten Tree, accusing the company of repurposing the collaborating assets in Metal Storm, also known as Mecharashi in some regions, leading to allegations of copyright violations.

Ten Tree addressed the claims by expressing a desire for a peaceful resolution through a message on the Metal Storm website. While initially, Square Enix aimed to halt Mecharashi's US release unless the contested materials were removed and sought $150,000 per copyright breach, a new announcement confirmed that an agreement was reached, resulting in the lawsuit's withdrawal on May 20.

A notice on Ten Tree's website (translated by machine) affirmed the settlement and expressed ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience, apologizing for any trouble the issue may have caused, and encouraging continued enjoyment of the game.
