In a new lawsuit, a teenager from the United States has initiated legal proceedings against Roblox and Discord. The suit claims that the actions of these companies in the development, marketing, and distribution of their apps resulted in "severe injuries" to her.

Polygon reports that the lawsuit, submitted on April 21, 2025, by legal firms Anapol Weiss and Girard Sharp, accuses the platforms of being culpable in enabling the sexual abuse of the plaintiff, who was a minor at the time and has only recently come of age.

The lawsuit details how the girl, at the age of 12 and with parental consent, began using Roblox. Her parents later discovered that a predator exploited her into producing and sending inappropriate images and videos.

Court documents allege these crimes were executed by an individual who was able to carry out their acts due to negligence by the defendants.

The legal complaint highlights the impact of these events on the teenager, including severe depression, social withdrawal, and a notable decline in her academic performance.

The 18-year-old from Florida is pursuing claims against the companies for various causes, including negligent misrepresentation, unreasonable design, and failure to provide sufficient warnings.

Roblox responded to Polygon, stating, "We cannot comment on ongoing legal matters but will address them through the proper channels. The safety and protection of our users are paramount. We use advanced technologies and moderation to prevent and respond to inappropriate actions on our platform."

Roblox emphasized that it invests in technology for filtering and moderation and does not permit image sharing on its platform.

Update April 30, 2025: Discord has also released a statement to GamesIndustry.biz:

"We won't discuss active legal proceedings but will engage appropriately through legal avenues," a representative stated.

"User safety is a critical focus, and we take concrete measures against violations, which includes content removal, bans, server shutdowns, and collaboration with law enforcement."
