The Pokémon Company has reached a settlement involving a large financial sum in a lawsuit over a mobile game that infringed on their copyright
The lawsuit brought by The Pokémon Company against Pocket Monster: Remake has been resolved.
According to Automaton, after a September court ruling in favor of The Pokémon Company’s copyright claim, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court mandated that the companies involved pay $15 million in compensation.
The firms, Guangzhou Maichi Network Technology and Khorgos Fangchi Network Technology, initially contested the decision and filed appeals. However, they have since opted to settle through mediation, agreeing to a substantial payment and issuing public apologies.
Launched in 2015, the turn-based game Pocket Monster: Remake showcased elements closely resembling those in Pokémon. It reportedly earned approximately $42 million annually, leading The Pokémon Company to seek $72 million in damages.
