In March 2025, when Assassin's Creed Shadows is launched, it will feature altered content in Japan.
Ubisoft, the game's developer and publisher, has indicated that although the Japanese version will be rated CERO Z, akin to an 18+ rating, there will be notable "content differences" compared to other regions.
The Japanese ratings organization, CERO, has clarified that while European and North American players can choose to enable or disable the amputation feature, this setting has been completely removed for Japanese players, making it impossible to amputate opponents' necks and limbs in the game.
To ensure the game's approval in Japan, Ubisoft was also instructed by CERO to adjust how dismembered body parts are depicted in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Similar censorship actions were also applied to Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red in Japan.
