The Chairman of the Russian State Duma: In January, authorities plan to make a decision regarding protection from harmful video games
The Russian authorities intend to protect the country's residents from "destructive content" in video games. This was announced by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Volodin, on his Telegram channel.

It is assumed that children will be the primary ones protected. However, Volodin did not specify how. Details of the initiative will likely appear within a month—as per Volodin, a decision on this matter is expected by the end of January.
According to Volodin, the authorities classify video games that contain violence and promote "values alien" to Russia as destructive. The Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation stated that recent times have seen officials receiving numerous complaints about such video games.
Recall that in December 2024, a bill to regulate the gaming industry in the country was introduced for consideration in the State Duma of the Russian Federation. It mandates labeling video games and allowing Russian players to authenticate using a mobile phone or the State Services portal. The explanatory note to the bill states that its adoption "will contribute to achieving the goal of ensuring the psychological safety of citizens from the negative impact of video games."
