IBM secures $44.9 million victory in infringement lawsuit against Zynga

IBM has emerged victorious in its 2022 patent infringement case against mobile gaming giant Zynga.

The technology corporation succeeded in demonstrating to a Delaware jury that Zynga's well-known mobile game, Farmville, along with its various sequels and other titles, violated IBM's patents related to web-based communications.

The titles involved in this infringement case included Crosswords With Friends, CSR Racing 2, Empires and Puzzles, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, Wizard of Oz Slots, and several Farmville versions such as Farmville 2, Farmville 2: Country Escape, Farmville 2: Tropic Escape, and Farmville 3.

Despite refuting the claims, Zynga has been mandated to pay $44.9 million in damages.

Alan Lewis, a representative from Zynga, expressed to Reuters his disappointment with the decision and noted the firm's intention to seek an appeal.

Meanwhile, Zynga has recently divested its interests in the web3 project Sugartown, selling it to a new entity called D20.

This transition was publicly confirmed by D20 earlier in the month, stating that it had taken over all products and assets associated with Sugartown from Zynga.
