Remedy Entertainment and Annapurna Interactive have entered an agreement to finance "Control 2" and adapt both the "Control" series and "Alan Wake" for television and film.

Annapurna has entered into an agreement with Remedy to provide financial backing for 50% of Control 2's production.

This contract also grants Annapurna the rights to create film and television adaptations of both Control and its related series, Alan Wake.

This arrangement aligns with Remedy's strategy to self-publish some of its games.

The agreement specifies that Remedy will benefit from substantial revenue from game sales after covering initial costs, while Annapurna will gain considerable earnings from movie and TV adaptations.

Remedy will retain full intellectual property rights for Alan Wake and Control, but Annapurna obtains licensing rights for adaptations in film, TV, and other select audiovisual platforms.

Alan Wake 2, Remedy’s earlier release funded and published by Epic Games, is yet to turn a profit but impressively became the fastest-selling title from the company, earning critical acclaim.

This game shares its universe with Control. The debut Control game, released by 505 Games, surpassed four million in sales and generated €100 million. Remedy has since secured the publishing rights for Control 2 from 505.

"Our focus at Remedy remains on creating games that set industry standards, earning us global acclaim," stated Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.

"Partnering with Annapurna allows us to bring our beloved stories to a bigger audience through new formats such as film and television, thanks to this innovative deal."

Virtala further commented: "Annapurna's film successes, like Zero Dark Thirty, combined with video games like Stray, demonstrate their capability in entertainment, making them a perfect collaborator for us. This collaboration will enable us to enhance Control 2 and explore our franchises across media platforms as we venture into self-publishing."

Megan Ellison, Annapurna's Founder and CEO, remarked: "Through Remedy's compelling stories, we can explore new storytelling possibilities across different mediums."

Hector Sanchez, Annapurna's President of Interactive and New Media, added: "This partnership with Remedy isn’t solely about adapting games; it's about setting new precedents for collaboration. By supporting Remedy's self-publishing efforts, we affirm our belief in their vision, with the anticipation of showcasing their work to a broader audience."

Apart from Control 2, Remedy is engaged in developing a multiplayer spin-off titled 'Condor', additional content for Alan Wake 2, and remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 with Rockstar.
