Paradox Interactive has announced an indefinite delay for the release of Prison Architect 2
Prison Architect 2 by Paradox Interactive has been postponed indefinitely, missing its planned September release.
According to a development team blog post, the delay stems from the need to enhance both performance and content.
"Internal reviews and feedback from beta testers have pinpointed areas requiring further attention," the post explained.
The sequel was initially slated for a September 2 launch, but Paradox disclosed it "cannot provide a new release date" until the scope of the necessary work is fully reassessed.
"Efforts will concentrate on game enhancements and establishing a more solid release timeline over the upcoming months," the statement continued. "We’ll also be limiting our communication until we establish a comfortable timeline."
The team asserted: "This step is part of our ongoing dedication to refining our released content. We’re certain that postponing Prison Architect 2 is in the best interest of the game, allowing us to deliver a high-caliber experience that respects the original title."
Prison Architect 2 was first revealed in January 2024 and was expected to be released on March 26, but encountered its first postponement in March, followed by another delay in April.
In May, original developer Double Eleven exited the project after failing to secure a commercial agreement with Paradox Interactive.
Prison Architect 2's indefinite delay comes on the heels of the cancellation of Life by You, which experienced three delays before being terminated last month.
The termination of Life By You led to a 90% decrease in Paradox's profits during its second financial quarter this year.
