Koei Tecmo and Youzu reach out-of-court settlement in copyright dispute
Koei Tecmo has resolved its intellectual property dispute with Youzu.
Today, Koei Tecmo announced they reached an out-of-court resolution with Youzu, who acknowledged and expressed remorse for infringing on Koei Tecmo's games, specifically Nobunaga's Ambition and Taiko Risshiden.
According to Koei Tecmo, Youzu used music and visuals from their games without authorization for its mobile titles like Sengoku Legend: Uprising, Infinity Kingdom, and Dynasty Origins.
This unauthorized usage, Koei Tecmo claims, breached their IP rights and could result in confusion among users and business partners.
Despite attempts to address the issue through cease-and-desist notices and accepting Youzu's "voluntary promise" to stop using the disputed content, the unauthorized use persisted, leading Koei Tecmo to pursue legal action.
"Youzu admitted their infringement of our copyrights and trademarks through their online advertising and issued a formal apology for the significant inconvenience caused," Koei Tecmo stated.
"In the settlement, we have agreed on measures to prevent further infringements in the future. We believe the terms of the agreement align with our policy of protecting intellectual property rights, hence our decision to accept the settlement."
