ZeniMax employees are now part of the labor neutrality agreement between Microsoft and the Communications Workers of America (CWA)
Employees at ZeniMax Studios are now protected under Microsoft's labor neutrality agreement with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
The announcement, made yesterday by the CWA, confirms that ZeniMax staff are free to decide on collective bargaining with Microsoft remaining neutral on unionization matters.
Page Branson, a member of ZeniMax Workers United-CWA, stated: "Thousands of ZeniMax colleagues now have an unobstructed opportunity to organize for improved working conditions. The unionization process was transparent, with no influence from management, and the voting process was uninhibited by the company."
Branson added, "With growing numbers at ZeniMax, Microsoft, and within the gaming industry, we anticipate gaining deserved recognition and improving working standards for everyone. A better work environment benefits employees, consumers, and companies alike, ensuring industry stability for current and prospective workers."
This development follows recent reports of Microsoft shutting down four ZeniMax-owned studios, including Arkane Austin, as reported less than a month ago.
Microsoft and CWA entered a labor neutrality agreement in July 2022 amidst the Activision Blizzard acquisition. Microsoft reaffirmed this commitment in October 2023, emphasizing their dedication to supporting employee choices regarding their workplace representation.
Earlier in January 2023, a majority of 300 QA developers across ZeniMax's US operations voted to form a union, establishing ZeniMax Workers United.
