The owner of Wordle has initiated legal proceedings against the developers of the geography-oriented game, Worldle

Wordle's proprietor has initiated legal action against Worldle, alleging that this geography-oriented puzzle game has too many similarities to the original word-guessing game.

An article by BBC News highlighted the New York Times' claims that the map-themed app closely mimics Wordle in terms of its look, sound, and overall impression, which could potentially mislead users.

Worldle, which is accessible via web browsers, was created by Seattle-based developer Kory McDonald and attracts around 100,000 players monthly on average.

McDonald commented on the matter, saying, "There is an entire ecosystem of [dot]LE games. While Wordle concentrates on words, Worldle emphasizes geography, and Flaggle deals with flags."

The New York Times acquired Wordle in 2022 from its original designer, Josh Wardle.

This March, as reported by CBS News, the New York Times sent DMCA takedown requests to developers of Wordle-like games in an effort to protect its intellectual property.
