HoYoverse has filed a lawsuit against the creators of cheats for Genshin Impact. The case will be examined by a Canadian court

The developers of Genshin Impact continue the legal "operation to protect their rights." At the end of last year, HoYoverse, the western brand of the company miHoYo, appealed to the Federal Court of Canada and asked for proceedings against the creators of the cheats Akebi GC, Acrepi and Genshin XYZ.

HoYoverse explained that she decided to sue in Canada because the attackers are there. According to the company, at least one of them lives in the province of Alberta.

In the lawsuit, HoYoverse accused the creators of the cheats of copyright infringement. The company also indicated that they had damaged its reputation and caused financial damage.

"Akebi GC gives users the opportunity to take numerous prohibited actions and provides them with unfair advantages over other players. Akebi GC allows you to complete the game faster and reduces the likelihood of the user making in-game purchases. Since Genshin Impact is distributed for free and monetized only through in—game purchases, cheats cause significant damage to the company," wrote HoYoverse.

HoYoverse added that she spent a lot of money to track down and ban players using cheats. It also cost a lot to create patches that interfere with the work of Akebi GC, Acrepi and Genshin XYZ.

According to HoYoverse, she contacted the cheat developers, but to no avail. Although they promised to remove the cheats, they did not actually do so. The Akebi GC page on GitHub now says that the authors of the tool received a DMCA complaint, but they decided not to remove the software from the site, but simply distribute it only by subscription.

In addition, HoYoverse claims that these developers are currently working on cheats for Honkai: Star Rail.

The company demands that the attackers stop selling cheats and pay compensation in the amount of "more than $ 50 thousand."

miHoYo, together with HoYoverse, has been actively fighting copyright infringers since June 2023. Earlier, the Chinese police, at the request of the company, arrested developers of other cheats for its games, creators of private servers and manufacturers of fake merchandise.
