The FTC asked companies to be more careful with statements about the use of AI in their products
The hype around AI has attracted the attention of the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The agency published an appeal to tech companies, in which it stressed that AI is an ambiguous term, and it should not be abused.
According to the FTC, words about artificial intelligence are often used for marketing purposes. Companies may exaggerate the capabilities of AI technologies and mislead consumers. The FTC called such unfounded statements its “bread and butter” and warned that it could launch an investigation after them.
This is not the first time the FTC has addressed companies with a warning about the risk of abuse of the term AI. She published a similar message in the spring of 2021.
