An Austrian court found Sony guilty of violating the gambling law due to loot boxes in FIFA Ultimate Team
In 2020, several gamers from Austria sued Sony. In their lawsuits, they stated that they spent hundreds of euros to buy loot boxes in the PlayStation version of FIFA, but never received valuable cards with football players. In March 2022, the court sided with gamers and fined the company.
The court ordered Sony to pay compensation to the victims in the amount of € 338.26. Some gamers demanded up to € 85 thousand.
Electronic Arts, which owns the FIFA series, was not fined. It should be noted that the court found Sony guilty, not her, because it was Sony that processed payments on PlayStation consoles and made a deal with users.
