Tencent Joins Class Action against WeChat Blocking in the US
The case of banning the Chinese messenger WeChat in American stores is gaining momentum. This time, not only a group of app users will appear in court, but also Tencent itself.
According to Bloomberg, the Chinese company will participate in this trial directly for the first time. Earlier, the US WeChat WeChat Users Alliance, consisting of messenger users, took action against the WeChat ban in the states. In September, it was this alliance that convinced a judge to block the decision of US President Donald Trump to withdraw WeChat from stores.
Tencent does not plan to actively influence the trial. The company stated that its role is limited only to ensuring the confidentiality of business information. At the moment, the Chinese giant has submitted to the court a classified document that should convince the American government of the security of WeChat for US citizens.
