Epic Games is being sued. She is accused of deliberately creating very exciting games
Fortnite Battle Royale is created so exciting that it’s a reason to sue Epic Games. This is the opinion of the Canadian law firm Calex Légal. She is preparing a lawsuit against the “epics” in Quebec.
Calex Légal represents the interests of the parents of two young players in Fornite. The developer is accused of “deliberately creating a very, very exciting game.” That is, according to the future plaintiffs, Fortnite was deliberately designed to cause gambling addiction, especially among minors.
The parents’ lawyer stated that Epic Games “had been hiring psychologists for years — they studied the human brain and sought to ensure that players had as much addiction as possible.” The parents themselves claim that Fortnite has ruined the lives of their 10— and 15-year-old children. “If we had known in advance, we would never have allowed them to play this game or watched them more closely,” they note.
The claim against the company is based on the law on consumer protection. The law firm is confident that the “epics” knew which product was being put on the market, but did not inform the players about the possible dependence.
According to Eurogamer, there is a line in the Fortnite user agreement about the rejection of criminal claims against Epic Games. All claims to the game should be discussed within the framework of individual arbitration — that is, personally with the “epics”. Nevertheless, in Quebec, the consumer protection law requires that the risks associated with products be clearly indicated.
The amount of the lawsuit against Epic Games was not called.
