SoftBank brought its stake in Supercell to 73.2%
Japanese telecommunications giant SoftBank has acquired an additional 22.7% of the creators of Clash of Clans and Hay Day.
The remaining share of 26.8% remains at the disposal of the managers and employees of the Finnish company. Supercell will continue to work independently, Ilkka Paananen (Ilkka Paananen) remains the CEO of the studio.
The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.
The acquisition of a controlling stake in Supercell (50.5%) cost SoftBank $1.5 billion a year and a half ago.
A lot has changed since then. Supercell’s revenue increased almost nine times in 2013 (from $101 million to $892 million), and doubled in 2014 (to $1.7 billion).
