Discord will begin making some messages from public servers available for web search starting in December
Discord announced that starting mid-December, messages from some large public servers will become accessible for web search. This applies only to servers in the Discoverable Servers category, which includes individual public communities with a thousand or more users.
According to the company, the new feature is intended to simplify access to useful information that often remains within chats. Discord noted that forums and official game studio platforms used to play this role, but some of these discussions have gradually moved to Discord servers.
The company clarified that the feature will not affect invite-only servers and private messages. Additionally, administrators of Discoverable Servers will have the option to completely opt-out of indexing or to allow searches only for specific channels.
Users will also have the option to prohibit their messages from appearing in search results from such servers through the User Settings > Data and Privacy section. Discord's Product Manager Kelsey Duncombe-Smith stated that usernames and avatars will not be displayed alongside these messages.
The feature is not yet launched, but the corresponding settings for administrators and users are already available.
