Gravity Well laid off a majority of its employees after losing funding
In 2020, veterans of Respawn Entertainment and Infinity Ward founded the studio Gravity Well. Six years later, the team faced the threat of closure.
The management of Gravity Well announced on LinkedIn that the studio's deal with a potential partner, who was expected to fund their debut game, fell through over the summer. Efforts to find a new investor were unsuccessful, leading to a decision to lay off around 40 employees — the majority of their staff.
Despite the setbacks, Gravity Well intends to continue “fighting for survival.” They have acknowledged that due to the crisis in the gaming industry, they might soon cease to exist but hope to avoid this outcome.
Gravity Well has not publicly shared details about their first game. During the announcement of the studio's launch, they mentioned plans to develop innovative AAA titles but did not reveal the preferred genre or any other specifics.
