Epic Games has sold ArtStation and Sketchfab

Epic Games has unexpectedly divested two assets: the artist platform ArtStation and the 3D model publishing platform Sketchfab. They have been acquired by the company KitBash.

The terms and amount of the deal have not been disclosed.

As explained by Epic Games in a press release, the company decided to sell ArtStation and Sketchfab because it now wants to focus on its core business. Specifically, it is interested in the development of the Unreal Engine, the Epic Games Store digital storefront, and the game Fortnite.

In a separate statement, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney clarified on social media platform X that the Fab marketplace, launched two years ago, will remain under the company’s management.

Epic Games acquired ArtStation in April 2021 and three months later became the owner of Sketchfab. The amount paid for them at that time was also not disclosed publicly.
