Employees at Build a Rocket Boy are planning to protest a forthcoming fan event described as "all-expenses-paid."
Employees of Build a Rocket Boy (BARB) are set to demonstrate outside their Edinburgh premises over a "fully-funded" fan gathering scheduled for this weekend.
Reports from Eurogamer indicate discontent among the workforce because the studio is hosting community fans despite a wave of layoffs following the game's release. MindsEye was launched in June 2025.
The protesting staff from BARB will be joined by members of the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) and additional union representatives, alongside broader public support.
The company reportedly terminated about 300 positions in June 2025, with further job losses announced later this year.
On its initial release, MindsEye faced criticism due to technical issues, resulting in canceled marketing events and receiving negative critiques. Following the rocky launch period, the developer reduced its workforce but continued to enhance the game, offering a "free starter pack" across all platforms in November.
In February, BARB declared a "fresh phase of ongoing development", aligning with its main promotional efforts since the June release. By March, IOI Partners and Build a Rocket Boy ended their publishing deal for MindsEye.
