Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, shared that the studio's latest release, 007 First Light, is nearing the milestone of three million copies sold. Although it hasn't yet reached profitability, the financial target is significantly lower than previously suggested figures of $200 million. Discussions with Amazon, the rights holder of the Bond franchise, are ongoing as the company plans content for the game beyond its first year.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz after an LA event announcing sales of 2.7 million units within less than two weeks since launch, Abrak noted the game had "likely" exceeded three million sales, surpassing initial expectations. He clarified that the reported $200 million production cost was an overestimation, encompassing broader marketing and future performance-based expenses.

Abrak explained they have not yet fully recovered their investment due to partnerships and royalty agreements. Nonetheless, he expressed enthusiasm about the game's success, describing it as exceeding their dreams and expectations. It is poised to become a significant achievement for the studio.

The developer has unveiled plans for extensive content additions in the game's first year, much of which will be free. Abrak is optimistic about extending support into the second year, stating hopes that the community remains engaged to enable further content releases.

While current discussions with Amazon primarily focus on First Light and ongoing content, future plans involving IO Interactive and Amazon are anticipated to be disclosed soon.
