The creator of PUBG has announced a "restructure" of the studio, admitting, "I have reached the limits of how far I can fund this journey"
Brendan Greene, known for creating PUBG, has initiated a restructuring at PlayerUnknown Productions due to financial constraints. Greene expressed, "I have reached the limits of how far I can continue to fund this journey in its current form."
In a statement shared on X/Twitter, PlayerUnknown Productions acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but emphasized their commitment to continuing the development of Melba technology.
In 2021, PlayerUnknown Productions was established as an independent entity with 23 people working towards a significant future vision. The focus has been on creating technology capable of pushing the limits of virtual world size. This involved forming a research team to develop the Melba technology and another team for their terrain generation project titled Prologue: Go Wayback!
The statement further elaborated, stating that Greene has decided to reshape the studio in light of financial boundaries. They will persist in the development of Melba technology with a reduced team, while the progression of Go Wayback! will pause.
Supporting employees through this shift remains a primary concern for the studio.
Alongside the restructuring news, the announcement explained that the Prologue: Go Wayback! game, described as an open-world survival roguelike where each journey is distinct, will now be offered free to all future users. This change will come with an upcoming update.
Following this decision, the company is exploring ways to offer refunds to previous buyers who purchased the game through Steam and Epic Games Store.
Brendan Greene, the mind behind PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, established his independent studio, PlayerUnknown Productions, in 2021, located in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
