The owner of Fandom and GameSpot is preparing to acquire Playstack, the publisher behind Balatro

Integrated Media Company (IMC), known for owning Fandom and Gamespot, is on track to acquire Playstack, the publisher renowned for titles like Balatro, Abiotic Factor, and The Rise of the Golden Idol. Game Developer was the first to reveal this transaction.
TruFin, which holds 84.5% of Playstack, has conditionally agreed to the sale, pending shareholder approval. It has advised its stakeholders to support the motion. The deal is anticipated to bring around £112.4 million in net cash to TruFin.
On May 22, Harvey Elliott, the CEO and founder of Playstack, shared his thoughts on the transition through a statement posted on Playstack's website. He expressed enthusiasm about welcoming a new investment partner, emphasizing that operations and strategic focus on premium indie games would remain unchanged. Elliott extended his gratitude to TruFin for the support over the past seven years.
In a separate note dated May 21, TruFin CEO James van den Bergh highlighted the significance of this sale as a turning point for TruFin, illustrating the company's strategic capital management and value enhancement. He commended Playstack's potential under IMC's direction and reflected positively on their prior collaboration.
Earlier, TruFin showcased Playstack's successful track record, noting that over 85% of its games yield a positive return, and highlighted a revenue of £55.3 million in 2025—a 24% increase from the previous year—representing most of TruFin's revenue.
IMC, an asset vehicle for the private equity firm TPG, aims to acquire and enhance valuable companies, collaborating with management teams for sustained growth, according to their website. Besides owning GameSpot and Fandom, IMC’s diverse holdings include Screen Junkies and other entertainment and e-commerce brands.
Last year, Playstack's Harvey Elliott spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about the achievements of their indie game lineup, mentioning that the company's recent successes have bolstered their confidence.
