Fireshine Games, known for publishing the successful game Far Far West on Steam, has openly stated its policy against collaborating with developers who rely on generative AI art. Brian Foote, the CEO of Fireshine, clarified this stance during an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, asserting, "We don't work with partners that are relying on generative AI or generative art, and I think that's the red line we are very clear on."

Nevertheless, Foote noted that the company is not against the use of specific AI tools in game development. He mentioned that AI for purposes such as code completion or using Copilot in Word is a different matter. "It will be very hard for anybody to say they're not touching AI in some way, shape or form, but in terms of the core game creation, that is not something that we think players are interested in at this point in time, and not something that we think is healthy for the development community," he added, reaffirming the company's current position.

Tim Bender, CEO of Hooded Horse, which publishes Manor Lords, expressed a similar view earlier this year. In January, he advised against using generative AI for even placeholder assets, citing risks of such art making it into the final product.

Since its Early Access debut on April 28, Far Far West, a collaborative shooter with a western theme developed by the French studio Evil Raptor, has quickly gained popularity, achieving over one million sales in just the first two weeks.
