Atari has acquired the rights to the original games in the Wizardry series
Wizardry is a legendary series of fantasy role-playing games that has had a tremendous impact on the genre. Now, the "complete and exclusive rights" to the first five parts belong to Atari.
Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
As Atari explained, they have acquired the "Llylgamyn Saga" and all related intellectual property. Meanwhile, the rights to Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge, Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant, and Wizardry 8, which tell a different story, remain with the Japanese publisher Drecom.
According to Atari, the games they purchased have been unavailable to gamers for a quarter of a century, and now they want to bring them back to the market. One option is the release of remasters. Additionally, the company plans to actively develop the franchise through comics, books, board games, and even film adaptations.
The purchase amount has not been disclosed.
