Supercell to become the owner of Metacore, the developer of Merge Mansion
The Finnish giant Supercell is set to grow even larger. It has announced plans to purchase all shares of the creators behind the popular mobile puzzle game Merge Mansion.

Supercell and Metacore have a long history of collaboration. In 2018, the creators of Clash of Clans decided to support the then-emerging studio Metacore with an investment of $5.9 million. Later, Supercell made several additional investments and eventually became the largest shareholder of the team. Given all this, the full acquisition of Metacore is a logical continuation of their partnership.
The amount and terms of the deal are undisclosed. However, it is known that Supercell will now focus more on the development of Merge Mansion, which has recently faced challenges in growth.
“Merge Mansion has a strong core that players have genuinely loved for over five years, and it was created by a team that pioneered the merge-2 genre. I believe that Merge Mansion’s best days are still ahead. With Supercell’s expertise in relaunching and scaling global service games, along with our capabilities in project operations and user acquisition, we can help the game climb back to the top of its niche — where it truly belongs,” stated Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen.
Meanwhile, Metacore itself announced a restructuring. It does not rule out the possibility of significant layoffs in its Finnish division, with up to 160 employees potentially being let go. The studio explained that it needs to change its structure to remain competitive.
