A hacker received 2.5 years in prison for hacking DraftKings
A U.S. court sentenced one of the defendants in the case of hacking accounts on the fantasy sports platform DraftKings to 30 months in prison.
Investigations revealed that Kamerin Stokes (also known as TheMFNPlug) and other perpetrators gained access to 60,000 user accounts on the platform. They used previously leaked logins and passwords for this exploitation. The hackers linked new payment details to the compromised accounts, made small deposits for verification, and then withdrew all the funds to accounts they controlled.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a hefty fine on Stokes — the hacker is required to pay over $1.3 million in compensation to the victims. Additionally, $125,000 will be confiscated from him.
The attack on DraftKings occurred in 2022. Two other hackers have already been penalized in connection with this case.
