Ilkka Paananen, the CEO and co-founder of Supercell, is set to be honored with a BAFTA Fellowship at this year's BAFTA Game Awards.

Paananen's recognition comes from his significant role at Supercell, creators of popular mobile games like Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars.

Beyond his work at Supercell, he is an investor and mentor via Illusian and the Ilkka Paananen Foundation, supporting social impact tools, educational games, and initiatives to enhance the social and mental well-being of children, youth, and families.

Paananen expressed his gratitude by stating, "Receiving the BAFTA Fellowship is an incredible honor." He regards the past Fellows as personal inspirations, being included among them as unimaginable for him. He credits his success to the talented game developers he has collaborated with over the last 25 years, acknowledging that this recognition belongs to them.

Jane Millichip, BAFTA's CEO, remarked on Paananen's visionary leadership in the gaming industry and his creation of a globally impactful company that emphasizes creative collaboration. She highlighted his commitment to supporting emerging talent and young people, aligning with BAFTA's values. Millichip expressed her enthusiasm for celebrating his achievements at the upcoming BAFTA Games Awards with Google Play.

In the previous year, the BAFTA Fellowship was awarded to Japanese composer and pianist Yoko Shimomura for her contributions to game music in series such as Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 15, and Xenoblade Chronicles.

The 2026 BAFTA Game Awards is scheduled for April 17 at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.

Leading this year's nominations is Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has been nominated in 12 categories, including Best Game.
