The cost of the acquisition of Unbound by Shift Up is not being disclosed.
In their statement, Shift Up shared that they will actively collaborate with Unbound and provide support. For instance, the company plans to publish games developed by Mikami’s team. Shift Up hopes that ultimately, this deal will make them more competitive in the gaming market.
Mikami described the deal with Shift Up as the “perfect partnership.” According to him, he feels a “strong synergy” with the company’s CEO, Kim Hyung-tae, and believes this will enable them to create excellent games.
It’s worth recalling that Mikami once laid the foundations for the Resident Evil series and also contributed to Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis, The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush, and many other popular games.
Unbound was officially registered in November 2022 and began full operations in May 2023 — shortly after Mikami left Tango Gameworks. The studio is currently working on its debut yet-to-be-announced game. It is known that this will be an AAA-level title with a new IP for consoles and PC.
