Since its debut three months ago, Hollow Knight: Silksong has surpassed the seven-million mark in sales. According to Team Cherry, this figure excludes the extensive player base on Xbox Game Pass.

The developer marked this achievement by revealing that the game's inaugural major expansion, Sea of Sorrow, is being developed. Set for a complimentary release next year, this expansion will introduce new environments, adversaries, and tools with a marine theme.

Additionally, Team Cherry announced the upcoming Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, slated for a 2026 release. This edition promises enhanced graphics, offering higher resolutions and frame rate options, available at no extra cost to owners of the original Switch version.

A prelude to the new edition will come as a platform-wide update that aims to incorporate new functionalities and resolve existing technical issues.

"Having this vast player base, beyond what we imagined (enough to crash all of the storefronts!)," commented Team Cherry. The excitement within the community, from the impressive art to innovative strategies and mutual support, has been incredibly fulfilling, and continues to drive us in our expansion efforts."

Released on September 4, Silksong shattered several records, quickly becoming a top title by concurrent player numbers, as recorded by SteamDB.

Following its launch, Silksong recorded over 535,213 players concurrently on Steam, reaching a peak shortly after its release. It topped Steam's wishlist charts for 2025, with 4.5 million users expressing interest.

The sequel to the acclaimed 2017 Hollow Knight, Silksong received widespread critical praise, achieving a Metacritic score of 90. For a deeper analysis, you can read our critical consensus here.
