NetEase sells Fantastic Pixel Castle as the studio seeks a new publisher to prevent shutting down
NetEase has announced its decision to sell Fantastic Pixel Castle. This comes as the studio's head, Greg Street, indicates that the organization must secure a publisher or investor for its MMORPG, known by the codename Ghost, or face potential closure.
In a message shared on LinkedIn, Street revealed that Fantastic Pixel Castle's chapter with NetEase Games is concluding. He expressed gratitude towards NetEase for their support in finding a new publisher for the project, but also noted the challenging market conditions that hinder deal-making, especially for large-scale games like an MMORPG.
Street stated the studio is actively seeking a publisher or investor and is encouraging team members to pursue other opportunities due to the uncertain future. Without a timely agreement with a publisher, the studio and its members, including leadership, may face closure.
He extended thanks to the Ghost community, playtesters, and those providing funding advice during these challenging times, expressing hope that Ghost would someday be enjoyed by players. He also praised the dedication of the FPC team, highlighting their high morale and performance, which has been unmatched in his career, making the last two years particularly rewarding.
