Tencent will invest more in its own PC shooters following the success of Delta Force

The popularity of Delta Force — the game's daily active user base recently exceeded 30 million people — has prompted Tencent to alter its strategy. In an interview with Bloomberg, Leo Yao, managing director of Timi J3 Studio, the developer of the game, shared that the holding company now plans to focus more on creating its own PC shooters.

Yao acknowledged that Tencent and its subsidiary studios already have a number of shooters: from the mobile version of PUBG to Valorant. However, the holding is primarily viewed as an investor or publisher, rather than a developer—especially not a PC games developer, since a significant portion of its revenue comes from mobile.

To change this perception, Tencent intends to vigorously promote Delta Force in the West as a starting point. According to Yao, he and his team enjoy the "full trust" of the holding's top management, allowing them to rely on significant resources. Funding is already being actively allocated to his studio for both the marketing of Delta Force and the development of new games.

It's worth noting that a year and a half ago, Tencent announced its intention to invest less in third-party projects and more in its games. Around the same time, it launched the "Spring Bamboo Shoots" program, through which it began granting its teams up to 300 million yuan ($42 million) to create small, innovative games. However, there was no mention of a particular interest in shooters then.
