Vedinad, the developer known for innovative gaming titles, recently announced that its game Megabonk has surpassed the one million sales mark on Steam. This milestone, reached within just a fortnight, underscores the enduring popularity of rogue-like survival genres akin to Vampire Survivors.

The achievement was shared by Vedinad on X, marking an important milestone for the game. Video Game Insights (VGI) reports that sales estimates for Megabonk have reached approximately 1.3 million, with its Steam peak player count exceeding 117,000.

Megabonk distinguishes itself with distinctive low-polygon graphics, presenting a three-dimensional take on the successful 2D game Vampire Survivors by Poncle. GamesIndustry.biz's Marie Delassandri recognized Vampire Survivors as the game of the year in 2022. Megabonk brings a novel twist to this style with an unconventional cast, featuring characters such as a skateboarding skeleton donning sunglasses.

It’s not the only title riding the coattails of Vampire Survivors. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor has incorporated elements like mining, achieving around 1.2 million sales according to VGI. Additionally, Soulstone Survivors, which fully launched in June, maintains about 123,000 monthly active users, although Allan Smith, its creator, dedicated 20-hour days to capitalize on the Vampire Survivors trend.

Data from VGI reveals a high degree of overlap between Megabonk players and those owning Vampire Survivors (62.5%), with significant cross-ownership with Warframe (63.2%) and Risk of Rain 2 (64.1%).

Presently, Megabonk ranks fifth on Steam's top seller chart, trailing only EA Sports FC 26. User feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with more than 19,000 reviews bestowing it a "very positive" rating.

This year, Steam has seen several titles experience sudden popularity, not limited to Megabonk. The drug-dealing simulation game Schedule I soared in the charts in March, while Peak achieved two million sales within nine days.
