As of August 21, Sony is set to raise the price of its PlayStation 5 in the United States.

According to a brief note on the PlayStation Blog coinciding with Gamescom, Sony announced that the new recommended retail prices for the various PS5 models—standard, digital, and Pro—will now be:

  • PlayStation 5 – $549.99
  • PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – $499.99
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – $749.99

Before this change, the PS5's prices were $499.99 for the standard version, $449.99 for the digital edition, and $699.99 for the Pro model.

Sony explained, "Like many international companies, we are dealing with a tough economic climate, leading us to make the hard choice of increasing the PS5 console prices in the U.S. starting on August 21."

Prices for accessories are unaffected, and Sony stated there are "no further price modifications planned for other regions."

In other news, it has been reported that Forza Horizon 5's PlayStation 5 edition has surpassed three million sales, making it the highest-selling new PS5 game of 2025 thus far. More details can be found in an article here.
