The newly released Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved remarkable success in Japan, with nearly one million units sold, marking it as the most successful console launch in the country's history.

According to a report by VGC, figures from Famitsu indicate 947,931 units were sold during the first week after its launch.

For comparison, the initial version of the Nintendo Switch sold 330,637 units as per data from the Game Data Archive.

Historically, the PlayStation 2 held the previous record for Japan's console launches with over 630,000 units, followed by the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, with 611,000 and 468,000 units sold, respectively.

Earlier this week, Nintendo revealed that the Switch 2 reached global sales of 3.5 million units in the first four days, setting a new record for the company's hardware launches.

In the same initial timeframe, the original Switch sold 2.7 million units.

The Japanese gaming giant forecasts 15 million Switch 2 units will be sold by March 2026, while Ampere Analysis estimates over 13 million consumers will purchase the console in 2025.
