Monster Hunter Wilds hits 8 million copies sold in three days: how it compares to other Capcom games' launch sales

Capcom has announced the first major milestone for Monster Hunter Wilds. Here’s how its launch sales compare to previous installments in the series and other games in the publisher’s portfolio.

Monster Hunter Wilds hits 8 million copies sold in three days, fastest-selling game in Capcom's history

Monster Hunter Wilds has sold over 8 million units in just three days since its global launch on February 28, Capcom announced in a press release. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but it is unclear how the sales are split between platforms.

This makes Wilds the fastest-selling title in Capcom’s history. The previous record was held by Monster Hunter: World, which shipped over 5 million copies in its first three days.

Fastest-selling games in Capcom’s history

  • Monster Hunter Wilds — 8 million copies in three days;
  • Monster Hunter: World — 5 million copies in three days;
  • Monster Hunter Rise — 4 million copies in three days;
  • Resident Evil Village — 3 million copies in four days;
  • Resident Evil 4 (remake) — 3 million copies in two days;
  • Resident Evil 2 (remake) — 3 million copies in its first week;
  • Monster Hunter World: Iceborne — 2.5 million copies in its first week;
  • Street Fighter 6 — 1 million copies in five days.

As of December 31, 2024, the entire Monster Hunter franchise has sold 108 million units globally. According to Capcom’s list of platinum titles, World leads with 21.3 million copies sold (excluding the Iceborne Master Edition), followed by Monster Hunter Rise (16.7 million), Iceborne (14.9 million), Sunbreak (9.4 million), and Generations (4.9 million).

With over 8 million units sold in just three days, Monster Hunter Wilds is on track to become one of the best-selling games in Capcom’s history. The publisher has high hopes for the game, expecting it to boost its H2 revenue and profit, especially given the lack of similar major releases in the previous quarters. The company will likely report record results for the full year ending March 31, 2025.

Despite mixed reviews from players and various technical issues, Monster Hunter Wilds peaked at over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam alone. According to GameDiscoverCo, the game has already grossed over $150 million on the platform (as of March 2).
