Tencent now owns 7.97% of Kadokawa. This is slightly less than what Sony controls, the largest shareholder of the media conglomerate. It should be recalled that Sony recently increased its stake in Kadokawa to 10%.

It is reported that Tencent acquired the shares as part of a "financial and business agreement" between the parties. No other details of the deal are mentioned in the report.

Additionally, it's worth noting that aside from the stake in Kadokawa itself, the Chinese giant also owns a stake in its subsidiary studio, FromSoftware. In 2022, Tencent purchased 16.25% of the shares of the creators of Elden Ring, becoming the largest external shareholder of the studio.
