NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs were quickly sold out on Newegg, disappearing "within minutes"
Newegg, an online retailer for computer hardware, has announced that its entire stock of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards was depleted in "minutes" upon release. The demand for the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models has been particularly high.
Jim Tseng, the Vice President of Product Management, commented in a press statement that, "The gaming and PC communities have shown tremendous interest in NVIDIA's RTX 50 Series." He added that Newegg is collaborating with NVIDIA and Add-In Board (AIB) partners to replenish stock and maintain availability. Additionally, they are running a GPU trade-in initiative to facilitate more affordable upgrades to these new cards.
According to Newegg, their RTX 50 series inventory was completely sold in just 20 minutes. This resulted in an 8 to 10-fold increase in website traffic, with nine of the top ten site searches related to these GPUs, comprising 18 of the 25 most frequented pages.
Despite this success for Newegg, customers have been frustrated with the limited supply. Some units have appeared online with significant price hikes—up to $6,000 for an RTX 5090, equating to a 200% markup over the retail price, as noted in a report by IGN.
An NVIDIA representative named Tim assured users via the company's forums that there is high demand expected for these models. He mentioned that NVIDIA and its partners are continuously restocking and distributing GPUs to meet this demand.
MSI and other manufacturers have alerted consumers that the GPUs could be scarce, citing factors like the Chinese New Year impacting production rates.
