Media: The buzz around Black Myth: Wukong helped the creators of Phantom Blade Zero secure significant investments

Black Myth: Wukong became one of the phenomena of 2024: just three days after its release, its sales reached 10 million copies, and within a month, they surpassed 20 million copies. The excitement surrounding it spurred investors to pay attention to other developers from China, claims gaming consultant and journalist Daniel Camilo.

According to Camilo's sources, among others, investors have shown interest in the company S-GAME, which is working on the action RPG Phantom Blade Zero.

Camilo clarified that Phantom Blade Zero was at a “very advanced stage of development” by the time Black Myth: Wukong was released in August 2024. Its creators received initial funding long before, but on the wave of popularity of the monkey king game, they began receiving additional offers. As Camilo writes, S-GAME managed to land a new deal even before the release of Black Myth: Wukong, and after the game’s debut, the Chinese company even started turning down investors — so many were willing to collaborate.

How much money investors gave to S-GAME — Camilo does not disclose. According to him, the amount was “significant.” It is presumed that at least part of this money was spent by S-GAME to showcase trailers for Phantom Blade Zero at the 2024 ChinaJoy and Tokyo Game Show 2024 exhibitions.

According to the data from Crunchbase, by 2021, S-GAME had conducted three rounds of financing, raising a total of $5.9 million. There is no information on investments in the company in 2024 on the site.

Phantom Blade Zero will be released on PC and PlayStation 5 consoles. S-GAME has not yet announced the game’s release date.
