The Lenovo Legion Go S is the inaugural third-party PC handheld to receive official licensing for using SteamOS

Lenovo has introduced the Legion Go S, marking it as the first handheld PC from a third party licensed to run on Valve's SteamOS.

According to a blog entry by Valve, updates have been made to SteamOS—the same OS powering the Steam Deck—to ensure full compatibility with the Legion Go S. This device is a more compact version following the launch of Lenovo's Legion Go in 2023.

As per The Verge, the SteamOS variant of the Legion Go S will hit the market in May with a price tag of $499, while a console variant running on Windows 11 is expected to become available this month.

Valve has announced plans to broaden the reach of SteamOS to additional third-party hardware. They intend to release a beta version for users to download and try out.

The release schedule for the SteamOS beta has not yet been revealed.
