Embracer has sold Easybrain to Miniclip in a transaction valued at $1.2 billion
Embracer Group has entered into an agreement valued at SEK 12.9 billion ($1.2 billion) to sell its mobile game studio Easybrain to Miniclip, a company that specializes in digital entertainment.
The agreement stipulates that Miniclip will purchase the entirety of Easybrain, with the payment being made entirely in cash. The transaction is anticipated to be finalized in early 2025.
The announcement coincided with Embracer's second-quarter financial report, which highlighted a decrease in sales across its divisions. More details on this report can be found in their latest report.
CEO Lars Wingefors of Embracer stated, "This divestiture significantly strengthens Embracer's financial structure and enhances our capacity to create value. Easybrain has played a vital role within Embracer for over three years, contributing substantially to our value creation."
He added, "With the evolving market for Easybrain, Miniclip represents the ideal buyer who can maintain the developer's leading position in the ad-driven mobile gaming sector."
Easybrain's CEO, Oleg Grushevich, remarked, "Our time with Embracer has been valuable, enabling us to concentrate on our strengths and evolve distinctively. We are proud to have bolstered Embracer along the way."
Grushevich further commented, "Now, as we embark on a new phase with Miniclip, we are poised to explore new potentials and offer even more captivating experiences to our audience."
The collaboration between Embracer and Easybrain began in 2021 when they merged in a $765 million transaction, which positioned the owners of Easybrain as the third-largest shareholders in Embracer.
Earlier this year, Embracer underwent a restructuring, splitting into three independent entities following a nine-month strategic overhaul. The restructuring led to various sales, including Gearbox Entertainment and Saber Interactive, along with the closure of three studios and over 1,400 job cuts.
