Modern Times Group (MTG) is planning to purchase Plarium, the developer behind Raid: Shadow Legends, from Aristocrat Leisure Limited.

The acquisition deal is valued at $620 million, with $20 million of this amount to be paid in 2026. Completion of the takeover is anticipated in the first quarter of 2025.

With this acquisition, MTG expects its total yearly sales to surpass SEK 12 billion ($1.1 billion), according to their announcement.

Maria Redin, CEO of MTG, stated: "[Plarium] brings an exciting and highly successful portfolio of live games spearheaded by Raid: Shadow Legends, an exceptional evergreen mid-core IP, to our line-up. The studio also has three additional strong live games, and an exciting new games pipeline in both the mid-core and the casual segments, which creates healthy optionality for future growth."

The decision to acquire Plarium was also influenced by their robust user acquisition and monetization strategies.

Founded in 2009, Plarium is predominantly recognized for the mobile RPG game Raid: Shadow Legends. It was bought by Aristocrat in 2017. Plarium reported $613 million in earnings for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, reflecting a 1.2% growth compared to the previous year.

Modern Times Group has a notable record of mergers and acquisitions. Recently, it has taken over AutoAttack Games through its subsidiary Ninja Kiwi and purchased a majority stake in Snowprint Studios.
