Merge Games has announced the closure of its Chelford office, alongside plans for staff reductions
Merge Games recently revealed that its Chelford location will be closing, resulting in layoffs, though the exact number of impacted employees is not disclosed.
Christina Seelye, CEO of Maximum Entertainment, communicated to GamesIndustry.biz that this step is part of their ongoing consolidation plan initiated earlier this year. This strategy includes incorporating the remaining assets of Merge Games into Maximum Entertainment's operations.
Seelye indicated, "In line with our previously disclosed reductions, we've taken the tough but essential step of implementing more cost-saving measures, which regrettably includes laying off staff."
The company aims to conclude 2024 efficiently and step into the next year in a stronger, more streamlined position to maintain a competitive edge, as per Seelye's statement.
Earlier this year, in February 2023, Zordix transitioned its gaming sector into Maximum Entertainment. This strategic move brought together publishers, including Maximum Games, Modus Games, Just For Games, and Merge Games, alongside developer Modus Studios, under one umbrella.
