New Indie Success: Detective Puzzle The Operator Sold 44 Thousand Copies in a Month

On July 22, the French indie studio of two people, Bureau 81, released the game The Operator for PC. The initial results of the project turned out to be quite impressive.

The Operator

The Operator is a detective puzzle game inspired by The X-Files Game, Her Story, and Return of the Obra Dinn. In the storyline, the gamer takes on the role of an employee of the game's equivalent of the FBI. They must assist field agents and, while in the office, use special software on the computer to solve crimes.

In its debut month, the game sold over 44,000 copies and grossed $506,200. The main markets for The Operator were the United States (21%), France (20%), and China (20%).

Additionally, The Operator ranked fourth in terms of reviews on Steam among new games in its release week. Currently, the game has over 3,000 reviews on Steam, 93% of which are positive.

In a conversation with the GameDiscoverCo service, the developers mentioned that the success was achieved thanks to the localization of The Operator into six languages, including Chinese. The project’s concept also intrigued streamers, who actively played The Operator.
