Cataclismo hits 120k copies sold: how it compares to other Hooded Horse-published games
Publisher Hooded Horse has added another successful indie project to its portfolio. Digital Sun’s strategy/tower defense game Cataclismo has reached an impressive sales milestone within two weeks of its release.
Digital Sun shared the news on social media, saying that Cataclismo has already sold over 120k copies since launching in Early Access on July 22. This makes it the fastest game from the studio to cross the 100k mark.
“We’re honored to serve as publisher for the amazing devs at Digital Sun, and we love building and defending castles!” Hooded Horse added.
The publisher has been on a winning streak over the past 12 months, releasing several successful indie games:
- Manor Lords — 2 million copies sold in three weeks;
- Norland — 185k copies sold in two weeks;
- Against the Storm — 1 million copies sold as of March 2024 (the game originally launched in Early Access in 2021, with Hooded Horse releasing version 1.0 in December 2023).
Hooded Horse’s publishing portfolio also includes Terra Invicta, which sold over 200k copies, as well as other strategy titles with 100k+ units sold (Clanfolk, Old World, NEBULOUS: Fleet Command).
Cataclismo is a base-building strategy game where players have to defend their castles from hordes of monsters. It currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 93% of the 1,608 user reviews being positive.
According to SteamDB, Cataclismo peaked at 3,152 concurrent players at launch. The game also debuted at #34 on Steam’s weekly top sellers chart. It remained in the top 50 for the week of July 30-August 6, ranking as the 35th highest-grossing product on the platform.
Digital Sun is a Spanish studio founded by Javier Giménez, who remains its CEO. The team has been around since 2013, but its debut game, action RPG with roguelite and management elements Moonlighter, only came out in 2019. The game sold over 500k copies in 11 months, crossing the 2 million mark in June 2022.
Last year, Digital Sun launched The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, a 2D action RPG based on the League of Legends franchise. It received positive reviews from critics and players, but Riot Games hasn’t yet disclosed its sales figures.
