The Canadian indie studio Cut to Bits has bid farewell to most of its staff. This was announced on social media by its co-founder and general manager Masao Kobayashi, who was also among those laid off.

According to Kobayashi, the studio was forced to conduct layoffs for financial reasons. He did not specify the exact reasons.

Kobayashi also shared a list of Cut to Bits employees who are now without jobs and urged other gaming companies to consider their resumes.

Cut to Bits was founded in 2019 by veterans from Ubisoft. The studio released its debut game just a month ago—on May 22, 2024, a Victorian-style Metroidvania titled Venture to the Vile launched on Steam. The project had a somewhat weak start. According to SteamDB, it peaked at 78 concurrent players. However, 71% of users who left reviews gave positive feedback about Venture to the Vile, praising its interesting world and pleasing visuals.

Despite the extensive layoffs, Cut to Bits will continue to support Venture to the Vile and work on the game's PlayStation version, which is set to launch by the end of the year.
