Kingdom Come: Deliverance hits 6 million copies sold on its 6th anniversary

To celebrate Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s sixth anniversary, Warhorse Studios has shared updated sales figures for its medieval RPG.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance hits 6 million units sold in six years

Warhorse made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), saying that Kingdom Come: Deliverance has now sold over 6 million copies globally. “We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you,” the studio wrote.

Launched on February 13, 2018, the game received generally positive reviews from critics, with the average Metascore ranging from 68 (Xbox) to 76 (PC). Kingdom Come also peaked at 96,069 concurrent players on Steam, where it currently has an 82% rating based on over 89k user reviews.

It is also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but it is unclear how sales are split between the platforms. Below are the main milestones in Kingdom Come’s life cycle:

  • 500k copies — in two days;
  • 1 million copies — in two weeks;
  • 2 million copies — by February 2019;
  • 3 million copies — by June 2020;
  • 4 million copies — by November 2021;
  • 5 million copies — by June 2022.

This means the game took a little over 1.5 years to sell another million units.

Warhorse Studios was founded in 2011 by two Czech developers — Daniel Vávra, writer and designer of the first two Mafia titles, and Martin Klíma, best known for his work on ArmA and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

Vávra decided to start his own studio after leaving Illusion Softworks. He didn’t like the way the company changed after being acquired by Take-Two in 2008 and renamed 2K Czech. For example, the new top management made the team cut some content from Mafia II and rejected Vávra’s script for Mafia III.

Initially teased in 2012, Kingdom Come: Deliverance was crowdfunded through Kickstarter and the studio’s website, raising over $2 million in total. In 2019, Embracer Group’s subsidiary Koch Media (now Plaion) acquired Warhorse for €42.8 million.
