Devolver Digital bought the creators of Astroneer for $40 million
The American studio System Era Softworks has announced that it has a new owner. She became a part of Devolver Digital.
System Era Softworks said that the companies began cooperating more than eight years ago — shortly after the studio was founded in 2014. Then Devolver Digital almost became the publisher of the Astroneer space survival. The companies turned out to have a similar business culture, so the current deal between them became "natural".
The maximum amount of the transaction will be $40 million, of which System Era Softworks will receive $22 million immediately.
All terms of the agreement are not disclosed, but it is known that the management of System Era Softworks will remain the same. System Era Softworks will continue to support Astroneer. In addition, the studio will deal with new projects, which it is not yet ready to talk about in detail.
Separately, it is reported that 13 million people have played Astroneer to date, and the gross revenue of the game has exceeded $87 million.
