New Zealand compensates studios for part of the cost of developing games

The New Zealand government has introduced a tax break for local game studios. It will reimburse them 20% of the costs incurred during the development of games.

Only those studios that annually spend at least $ 150 thousand on development will be able to receive a benefit. The maximum amount of compensation is $1.8 million per year.

As the New Zealand authorities hope, the benefit will help keep developers in the country. The fact is that over the past two years, New Zealand teams have been increasingly moving to Australia. There they can claim at least a 30%, and in some states, a 45%, tax deduction.
